Charles Allis welcomes Artist in Residence Tracey Nickolaus

MILWAUKEE (Feb. 13, 2024) – The Charles Allis Art Museum on Milwaukee’s East Side welcomes visual artist Tracy Nickolaus to the Museum’s Artist-in-Residence program.
Nickolaus —whose current body of work focuses on memory loss and dementia— will be studying the Museum’s global collection of works and creating a solo exhibition of new works during her residency. She is the first painter in the new residency program.

Executive Director Jaymee Harvey Willms is excited to welcome Nickolaus to the program and connect contemporary painting to the Museum’s historic works. “The Allis artist-in-residence program offers the wealth of art history and inspiration to local artists to grow their craft,” says Willms. “We’re excited to see how Tracy’s work interacts with the collection.”
The Museum’s historic collection, built by Sarah and Charles Allis, includes paintings, textiles, ceramics and sculpture work from four continents from 500 B.C. through the twentieth century.
Tracey will be in residence at the Museum through August. A solo exhibition of her work completed during residency will open Sept. 28. For more information regarding her upcoming exhibition or the Charles Allis Art Museum visit charlesallis.org.
