Chairwoman Nicholson Announces County Board Committee Assignments, Leadership Roles
MILWAUKEE – Today County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson announced committee assignments for the 2022-24 term of the Board of Supervisors.
“These committee assignments allow the diverse perspectives and individual talents of Supervisors to thrive and strengthen our ability to represent the people of Milwaukee County,” said Chairwoman Nicholson. “As I often say, the heavy lifting of our legislative work gets done in committee, and I look forward to seeing our refreshed committees dig in and push us toward our vision of becoming the healthiest county in Wisconsin by achieving racial equity.”
Supervisor Liz Sumner will chair the Finance Committee. Supervisor Sequanna Taylor will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Felesia A. Martin will chair the Audit Committee. Supervisor Anthony Staskunas will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Steve F. Taylor will chair the Economic and Community Development Committee. Supervisor Martin will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Shawn Rolland will chair the Health Equity, Human Needs and Strategic Planning Committee. Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Sequanna Taylor will chair the Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Supervisor Steve F. Taylor will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Ryan Clancy will chair the Judiciary, Safety, and General Safety Committee. Supervisor Deanna Alexander will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Sheldon A. Wasserman will chair the Parks, Energy, and Environment Committee. Supervisor Steven Shea will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Willie Johnson, Jr. will chair the Personnel Committee. Supervisor Patti Logsdon will serve as Vice-Chair.
Supervisor Coggs-Jones will chair the Transportation, Public Works, and Transit. Supervisor Shea will serve as Vice-Chair.
In an ongoing effort to modernize the County Board, Chairwoman Nicholson will also introduce legislation creating new avenues to propel Milwaukee County’s green initiatives while providing increased focus on parks and transit.
Under this legislation, the Transportation, Public Works, and Transit Committee would become the Transportation and Transit Committee; the Parks, Energy, and Environment Committee would become the Parks and Culture Committee; and the Economic and Community Development Committee would become the Economy, Community, and Environment Committee.
“As we continue to confront the mounting environmental and economic threats associated with climate change, we need a reenergized vision for collaboration and oversight of Milwaukee County’s efforts on this important issue,” said Chairwoman Nicholson. “This reimagining will provide a better platform to uplift our green initiatives, including our commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2050.”
Chairwoman Nicholson plans to refer this resolution to the Committee on Judiciary, Safety, and General Services for the May committee cycle so the new structure can be put in place by June.
This legislation builds on Chairwoman Nicholson’s work in the 2020-2022 term to focus on improved efficiency, cost savings and racial equity by establishing a standalone Audit Committee and shifting the focus of the County Board’s health committee to include oversight of departments’ work to implement the county’s vision and strategic plan.
