Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson Announces Next Steps Following Today’s Informational Hearing on Act 12
MILWAUKEE – Today, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the Milwaukee County Board Committee of the Whole met to hear testimony from County departments and hold a public hearing on the Informational Report in response to File 23-685 which provided information on the fiscal and policy provisions affecting Milwaukee County in 2023 Wisconsin Act 12. Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson issued the following statement:
“Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate and provide critical input on the future of Milwaukee County.”
“Act 12 has given Milwaukee County a generational chance to secure its financial future and continue offering the critical services that meet the needs of county residents. After listening today, I will be formally introducing a resolution to enact a 0.4% sales & use tax.”
“Neglecting to adopt the 0.4% sales tax will exacerbate inequality because the County will be forced to eliminate critical services like human services, housing services, senior services, transit routes, public safety, and parks and recreational facilities.”
“We expect it to be heard by a joint meeting of the Committee on Finance and the Committee on Personnel on Monday, July 17th and if recommended, will be before the Board for a vote at its next regularly scheduled meeting on July 27th”
