GREENDALE – This Saturday, August 17th, the Greendale Trail Association will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Greendale’s first bike lane. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitnall Park Beer Garden, with a community bike ride to follow. The ribbon cutting will take place at the southeast corner of Root River Parkway and Grange Avenue. The new bike lane, which connects Root River Parkway to Northway and features signage, represents a milestone in the Greendale Trail Association’s 3.5-year effort to connect the Oak Leaf Trail to the Village of Greendale.

“I am thrilled to celebrate this milestone with our community,” said Supervisor Kathleen Vincent. “This bike lane is a fantastic addition to Greendale, providing a safe and enjoyable route for residents and linking us to the Oak Leaf Trail. It’s a significant achievement that showcases our dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and improving connectivity. I am grateful to Jeff Birmingham, Director of the Greendale Trail Association, whose efforts and advocacy for this trail have been instrumental in making this vision a reality.”

The Greendale Trail Association is dedicated to developing the new Greenbelt Trail System, which aims to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety throughout the Village, improve connections to existing infrastructure, attract cyclists to Downtown Greendale businesses, and expand diverse transportation options. This new bike lane is a key component of the Greenbelt Trail System, linking Greendale’s attractions to the regional Oak Leaf Trail, a multi-use trail system spanning over 135 miles.
