Carmen High School of Science and Technology, Northwest campus is honoring one of their student athletes on Friday, November 10 during an all-campus assembly. The occasion celebrates National Letter of Intent (NLI) kickoff for the senior, who is committing to playing Division I basketball at the historically Black university, Grambling State, in Fall of 2024. Yesterday, November 8, marked the first day where student athletes can officially sign their letter to commit to an NCAA D1 institution. Carmen Northwest student athlete, Dupree Fletcher Jr., affectionately known as “Mico,” has been a breakout star on and off the basketball court throughout his educational journey and has earned the senior a full scholarship to Grambling. Fletcher, Jr.’s athletic and academic pathway will be highlighted in a special presentation featuring the school drumline, a performance from the cheer squad, remarks from Carmen Athletic Directors and an address from the public charter school’s CEO, Jennifer Lopez.

Middle school and high school students will be in attendance, inspiring future generations to pursue higher education and continue in their academic and athletic achievements. Attendees will enjoy performances, an opportunity to fellowship, and Grambling State University-themed treats for refreshments.

The special ceremony will take place at 2pm (CST) on the network’s Northwest campus, located at 5496 N. 72nd Street, Milwaukee, WI 53215. Principal Ashlei Miller is thrilled to bring the school community together to share in the celebration of Fletcher Jr.’s special milestone. “Mico’s presence has been a gift to our campus and to our basketball team. He has continued to excite crowds, excel academically and represent Carmen Northwest to his fullest potential. We are confident that he will continue to represent as a Carmen alum and as he pursues his dreams at the collegiate level,” said Miller. To date, 54% of seniors at Carmen Northwest have been accepted to college with a goal of reaching 100% acceptance by the end of 2023.
