Bucks’ new City Edition “Gathering Place” uniform a knowing nod to Bronzeville
Statement of Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs November 15, 2022
I am proud that the Milwaukee Bucks’ new City Edition “Gathering Place” uniform was inspired by the work of artist Ammar Nsoroma, whose Patchwork Mural has beautified the Bronzeville area for many years.
The Bucks will wear the City Edition uniform for the first time tomorrow (Wednesday, November 16) when they play the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Fiserv Forum. The uniform will also be worn at every Wednesday home game for the Bucks throughout the 2022-23 season and will also be complimented with a Gathering Place alternate court.
The Patchwork Mural by Ammar Nsoroma can be viewed near N. 5th St. and W. North Ave., and a star on the uniform’s shorts is styled after the mural’s look.
As part of the uniform launch, the Bucks have worked with Mr. Nsoroma and the Historic King District BID No. 8 to restore the Patchwork Mural to its original condition. This is just one example of the positive and community-building approach of the Bucks organization, and I commend the team for its efforts to showcase the Bronzeville District, one of the many jewels throughout the City of Milwaukee.
Additionally, I would like to thank Mr. Nsoroma for allowing the Bucks to use his wonderful, African-American leadership and legacy-inspired piece for the new uniforms.
I look forward to watching the Bucks defeat their opponent every time wearing the Gathering Place uniforms!
