Bronzeville Week returns to celebrate the past, present and future of key Milwaukee district
First approved by the Common Council in 2013, Bronzeville Week 2015 will run from August 1 to August 8.
Art, history, commerce, community and culture rooted in a rich urban tradition comes together in a festive spirit starting Saturday, August 1 as Bronzeville Week returns to Milwaukee, hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs.
First approved by the Common Council in 2013, Bronzeville Week 2015 will run from August 1 to August 8.
The week kicks off on Saturday, August 1 with the Bronzeville Cultural and Arts Festival (held on W. North Ave. between N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. & N. 7th St.), followed by Empowerment Sunday (Sunday, August 2) and the Bronzeville Clean-up event, also on Sunday. Other highlights of the week include an All Star Softball Game on Tuesday, August 4, networking events, health screenings and arts showcases that are all dedicated to celebrating the rich history of Bronzeville (please see the schedule for daily events).
“The Milwaukee Bronzeville of the early to mid 1900s was a vibrant and bustling hub of culture, arts and entertainment, and of course, commerce,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “Bronzeville Week brings that flavor and energy back, but with activities and events that emphasize a hopeful future for the district that includes a mix of business development, contemporary art, music and culture, shops and destinations for visitors and tourists.”
“I invite residents and visitors alike to experience the many activities Bronzeville Week has to offer,” she said.
