MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named infielder Mike Boeve as Minor League Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Yujanyer Herrera as Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April.

Boeve, who turned 22 on May 5, batted .449/.556/.623 (31-for-69) with 6 doubles, 3 triples, 9 RBI, 12 runs and 18 walks in 21 games between Class-A Wisconsin (13g) and Double-A Biloxi (8g) in April.

He batted .553/.642/.632 (21-for-38) in 13 games with the Timber Rattlers before being promoted to the Shuckers on April 20. In 8 games in April at Biloxi, Boeve hit .323/.432/.613 with 6 extra-base hits (3 2b, 3 3b). Boeve posted multiple hits in 13 of his 21 games between the two levels, including 4 games with 3 hits.

Selected in the second round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Nebraska Omaha, Boeve led the Minor Leagues in batting average in April (.449) and ranked among leaders in on-base percentage (2nd, .556), hits (T4th, 31) and OPS (5th, 1.179). At the time of his promotion from Wisconsin to Biloxi, Boeve topped the Midwest League in batting average (.553), on-base percentage (.642), OPS (1.274) and hits (21).

Herrera, 20, went 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA (17ip, 4er) and 27 strikeouts over 4 appearances with Class-A Carolina in April. Although each outing was in relief, Herrera worked at least 3.2 innings with 6 or more strikeouts in all 4 appearances. His 27 strikeouts in April tied for third most in the Carolina League.

Herrera allowed just 1 hit with no walks and a career-high 9 strikeouts over 4.0 scoreless innings on April 12 vs. Down East. For the month, opponents batted just .175 (10-for-57) against Herrera.

Signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela in 2019, Herrera was promoted from Carolina to Wisconsin on April 30. Herrera didn’t allow a baserunner and recorded 6 strikeouts over 3.0 scoreless innings against Great Lakes in his debut with the Timber Rattlers on May 2.
