Brewers Name July Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month

Wiemer and Dillard Earn Players of the Month; Knarr and Castañeda Named Pitchers of the Month

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named outfielder Joey Wiemer and catcher/infielder Thomas Dillard as their Minor League Players of the Month for July and left-hander Brandon Knarr and right-hander Victor Castañeda as Minor League Pitchers of the Month.

Wiemer, 22, hit .263 (25-for-95) with 4 HR and 14 RBI in 22 games for Low-A Carolina in July, including a 14-game hitting streak from July 13-28.Selected by Milwaukee in the fourth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, Wiemer reached base safely in each of his final 17 games in July and recorded a hit in 16 of those 17 games.Dillard, 23, batted .267 (27-for-101) with 9 HR and 26 RBI in 27 games with High-A Wisconsin during July.

A fifth-round pick of the Brewers in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, Dillard tied for fifth in High-A in HR (9) and RBI (26) for the month and tied for ninth in total bases (58). He homered in nine of 27 games he played in and recorded multiple RBI in nine contests.

Knarr, 23, went 3-1 with a 3.10 ERA (29ip, 10er), 45 strikeouts and just 9 walks in 5 appearances (4 starts) for Low-A Carolina in July. He ranked second in Low-A in strikeouts (45), third in opponent batting average (.200), fourth in ERA (3.10), fifth in WHIP (1.03) and sixth in innings (29.0).

The Brewers signed Knarr as an undrafted free agent in July of 2020.

Castañeda, 22, went 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA (25.2ip, 7er), 11 walks and 36 strikeouts in 5 starts for High-A Wisconsin during July. He recorded a career-high 9 strikeouts over 5.0 innings on July 13 at Peoria.

In his fourth year in the organization, Castañeda signed with Milwaukee as an undrafted free agent in July of 2017.
