Brewers Community Foundation, CBS 58 and Hunger Task Force Host 12th Annual Drive-Thru Food Drive to Feed Families in Need This Thanksgiving

MILWAUKEE – Brewers Community Foundation (BCF), the charitable arm of the Milwaukee Brewers™, in partnership with CBS 58 and Hunger Task Force have for more than a decade, hosted an annual food-drive to help feed seniors, families and children during the Thanksgiving holiday. Since the inception of the event, the Milwaukee community has donated nearly 1 million pounds of food and thousands of turkeys to those in need. The 12th annual community effort takes place Friday, Nov. 17 at American Family Field™ from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cars will be directed to pull through the American Family Field parking lot “drive-thru” next to Helfaer Field, while volunteers will accept food donations. CBS 58 will broadcast live from the food drive throughout the day, and visitors will be able to meet Brewers™ Alum Larry Hisle, favorite CBS 58 personalities and the beloved Famous Racing Sausages®.

All donors who contribute will receive a Brewers bobblehead and swag bag, and those who donate three or more turkeys will receive a special Brewers bobblehead, while supplies last.

The food drive comes at a critical time of year. With rising food and gas prices, Milwaukee pantry traffic has steadily increased throughout the year to more than 31,000 people each month, with numbers expected to rise as the weather turns colder. Donations of healthy, non-perishable foods—particularly healthy breakfast cereal, canned low-sodium vegetables and fruit in 100 percent juice—are especially important this time of year to stock Hunger Task Force’s food bank, as are frozen turkey donations for family holiday dinner tables.

“With need rising at local food pantries and meal programs, we need the community’s help more than ever to make sure everyone, from kids to seniors, have healthy and festive foods on the table this Thanksgiving,” said Hunger Task Force’s Chief Executive Officer Sherrie Tussler. “We’re grateful to our partners at CBS 58 and Brewers Community Foundation for their long-standing support of this special community tradition!”

“We feature news stories about the generosity of people in southeast Wisconsin all the time. It’s great to expand on that and be a part of such a special event where so many can help others in our community,” said Vice President & General Manager of CBS 58 Anne Brown.

“Our friends at Hunger Task Force have consistently met the basic needs of countless families in our community,” said Brewers Community Foundation Executive Director Cecelia Gore. “The partnership we have forged over the last decade with Hunger Task Force and CBS 58 has provided continuous opportunities to have a strong impact which resonates in the Milwaukee area beyond the food drive.”

Hunger Task Force is Milwaukee’s Free & Local food bank and Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader. The organization’s core values are Dignity, Justice, Equity, Compassion and Stewardship. Hunger Task Force feeds people today by providing healthy and culturally appropriate food to hungry children, families and seniors in the community absolutely free of charge. Hunger Task Force also works to end future hunger by advocating for strong public policies and nutrition programs at the local, state and federal level.
