Board Adopts Resolution for External Audit of Milwaukee County Jail
Chairwoman Nicholson Authors Action for Accountability
MILWAUKEE – Today, the Milwaukee County Board unanimously adopted a resolution to develop a scope of work for an external audit of the Milwaukee County Jail. The action taken was initiated through Amendment #42 to the County’s 2024 budget, authored by Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and cosponsored by Supervisors Sequanna Taylor, Steven Shea, Willie Johnson, Jr., Felesia Martin, Priscilla Coggs-Jones, Juan Miguel Martinez, Peter Burgelis, Caroline Gómez-Tom, Kathleen Vincent, Patti Logsdon, and Ryan Clancy. Chairwoman Nicholson made the following statement:
“Today’s action to adopt the scope of work for an external audit of the Milwaukee County Jail, underscores our commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement within our justice system,” said Chairwoman Nicholson. “Initiated by the Board, this audit looks to align County policy with the highest standards, while upholding the dignity of every person under the jurisdiction of Milwaukee County.”
The resolution underwent County Board review during the January 22, 2024, meeting of the Committee of the Whole. Next steps involve the procurement process to select a qualified entity for the external audit, with a subsequent file to be submitted to the County Board for contract approval.
