MILWAUKEEBelAir Cantina, a Mexican-fusion restaurant famous for its tacos, tequila and fresh ingredients, announced today that it will partner with YMCA Camp Minikani on its newest Powered by Tacos charity fundraising campaign.

BelAir Cantina is committed to serving every community in which they operate and each year, the restaurant selects a local nonprofit organization as their “Powered by Tacos” partner. Together with BelAir executive chef and co-owner Noe Zamora, members from the charity work together to create and name a custom taco of their very own, which is featured on BelAir’s menu for six months. The signature taco is available at all BelAir Cantina locations, including its Madison restaurant.

The proceeds from the specialty taco go to support the selected organization and past partner organizations have included Ronald McDonald House, Journey House, Playworks, Urban Ecology Center, and  Wauwatosa Skate Park. The amount raised for each charity varies from year-to-year, and so far, BelAir has raised more than $140,000 for its partner organizations.

“We are delighted to be chosen as this year’s Powered by Tacos charity. This recognition comes during our 100th Anniversary year and the proceeds from the sale of the Minikani Magic taco will go directly to provide campers with scholarships to Camp Minikani,” shared Jon McLaren, Director of YMCA Camp Minikani. “It was so much fun to work with Chef Noe to create the perfect taco – we think people will really enjoy our creation and think back fondly of their own time at summer camp.”

This year’s Powered by Tacos taco will be called “Minikani Magic.” The taco is a sweet and savory mix of garlic soy marinated chicken, roasted corn salsa, charred marshmallow, crema and more. All six BelAir locations will also have a ‘taco tracker’ to keep count of the number of tacos sold and restaurants will compete for prizes to help encourage sales.

“Going out for a meal has a lot in common with heading to summer camp. Both are opportunities to disconnect from technology, try new things, and spend time sharing new experiences with friends new and old,” stated BelAir Cantina owner Kristyn Eitel. “When choosing a Powered by Tacos organization, we want to make sure the dollars raised have a positive impact in our community. For 100 years, Minikani has had a positive impact on thousands of children, providing a lifetime of memories and learning opportunities to kids across the region.”
