Be Counted on Sept. 20, the State’s Third Friday Student-count Day, MPS Reminds Students
(MILWAUKEE) — All Wisconsin students should be punctual and present in school every day, especially on Friday, September 20, Milwaukee Public Schools says. This date marks the state’s annual count of all students, conducted on the third Friday of September.
“Every day is crucial for a student’s education, but it’s essential that all enrolled MPS students are present for the September 20 count,” emphasized Matthew Boswell, Senior Director of MPS Student Services. The Department of Student Services oversees student enrollment and other related responsibilities for the school district.Good attendance is tied to higher levels of achievement in students, the National Center for Education Statistics notes.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction conducts the statewide count of all enrolled and present students. The funding allocated to each district for the 2024-25 school year is directly tied to this student count.
