Baldwin Delivers Over $20 Million for Wisconsin Tribes to Build Affordable Housing
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced four Wisconsin tribes have been awarded over $20 million to invest in affordable housing through the Fiscal Year 2023 annual funding bill she supported.
“Everyone in our state deserves the opportunity to live in the communities they love, but too many families struggle to find affordable housing where they want to live, work, and raise a family,” said Senator Baldwin. “I was proud to deliver this investment for our Tribal nations to build more affordable housing units, lower housing costs, and help more families find safe housing in their communities.”
The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Competitive Grant Program. Grant funds are used to develop, maintain, and operate affordable housing in safe and healthy environments for Native communities.
The following projects received funding under the HUD IHBG program.
Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin – Over $5.2 million will be used by Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin to build 11 housing units.
Lac Courte Oreilles Housing Authority – $3 million will be used by the Lac Courte Oreilles to build 12 housing units.
Oneida Nation – $6 million will be used by the Oneida Nation to build 16 housing units.
Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians – $5.8 million will be used by the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians to build 20 housing units.
