Awake Milwaukee Hosts Online Event Featuring Vatican Safeguarding Expert in Conversation with Abuse Survivors

Catholic organization creates unique opportunity for honest dialogue about ongoing problems in the way the Church addresses abuse

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 21, 2023 – On Thursday, March 2, at 1:00pm CST, Awake Milwaukee is hosting an online event featuring Fr. Hans Zollner, Director of the Safeguarding Institute of the Pontifical Gregorian University, in conversation with two survivors of clergy abuse, Esther Harber and Mike Koplinka-Loehr.

This conversation will focus on questions such as “What changes are needed in the Church’s understanding of abuse of adults?” and “What can church leadership do to make the reporting process more compassionate for survivors?” The event will also include time for questions from abuse survivors in the audience.
