November 12, Milwaukee, WI, … AV Geek’s 16mm Film Archivist – Skip Elsheimer invites you to dive into the world of twisted circus dreams for one night only at the Avalon with a special live screening of 16mm school and church films featuring clowns and their deepest fears. This is your ultimate chance to confront your own clown phobia (coulrophobia). Yes, clowns can be scary but imagine the nightmares a clown might have?!
If Mirrors Could Speak: Witness the chaos as misbehaving kids confront their clownish reflections in the classroom.
Toothache of a Clown: Experience the wild, nitrous-induced fever dream of a clown battling a terrible toothache.
Parable: Learn how this film short, made for the 1964 World’s Fair Protestant Church pavilion resulted in condemnation by Robert Moses, city architect and fair planner, and death threats.
Mark of the Clown: The mysteries of Holy Communion are now easy to understand thanks to a congregation of clowns!
The evening includes an intro and discussion by host Skip Elsheimer.
Skip Elsheimer, the mastermind behind the legendary A/V Geeks 16mm Archive, brings us rare, offbeat, and bizarre educational films, commercials, and forgotten footage from yesteryear. With over 37,000 16mm reels in his archive, Skip’s collection is a fascinating dive into the visual history of American life, covering everything from classroom classics to eerie public service announcements. Footage from the A/V Geeks have appeared in numerous documentaries and TV shows seen on PBS, the History Channel and in theaters. Skip’s been showing 16mm films all over the country for more than 30 years. Skip Elsheimer has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, and multiple local news programs as well as curating showings at the Museum of Modern Art, Alamo Draft House, New York Film Institute, Other Cinema, the Exploratorium, Fantastic Fest, the Texas Theater, and Aurora Picture Show.
