American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Local 212 Endorses Peter Burgelis for Common Council, District 11

MILWAUKEE – Peter Burgelis, candidate for Milwaukee Common Council, District 11, announced today he has gained the endorsement of the members of AFT Local 212.

“Peter Burgelis brings a unique blend of business know-how and progressive values to the table,” said Dr. Lisa Conley, President of AFT Local 212. “After careful consideration by our Committee on Political Education, Local 212 has every confidence that he will make an excellent Alderman.”

AFT Local 212 is the union of teachers, counselors, and professional staff at the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). Over 80% of MATC’s full-time faculty and professional staff are members.

“Local 212 has an incredible record of fighting for progressive causes, from education to immigration,” said Peter Burgelis. “I am incredibly excited to have the strength of their membership behind me in this race to bring Milwaukee values back to the Common Council.”

A primary election will be held on February 18, 2020 with the general election on April 7, 2020. The 11th Aldermanic District includes neighborhoods in southwestern Milwaukee. Find a full map here.

Peter grew up in Wauwatosa, attended Marquette University High School and graduated from the University of Louisville (BA Political Science). He is employed as a mortgage professional, serves as chairman of the Wisconsin Latvian Cultural Foundation, and is a member of the Cream City Foundation board of directors.
