Alderman Burgelis to discuss current, proposed new city flag at community events throughout August
Alderman Peter Burgelis will be traveling to all parts of Milwaukee throughout August to discuss the City of Milwaukee flag and collect feedback from residents. The “Flag Roadshow” will include discussion and information about the city’s current flag, as well as “Sunrise Over the Lake” that the Alderman has proposed be adopted as the official City flag.
“Sunrise Over the Lake is referred to as ‘The People’s Flag’ and has been organically adopted by Milwaukeeans since its introduction in 2016. Its widely used by Milwaukeeans on homes, businesses, and local products in every ZIP Code and neighborhood in Milwaukee, which is why I believe it would suit our city well as the official flag,” said Alderman Burgelis. “That said, I want residents to be informed on the current flag as well, and want to gather as much feedback as possible good or bad.”Comments can also be sent to flagcomments@milwaukee.gov. The below list includes all events at which the Alderman will join his colleagues and others in the community to discuss Milwaukee’s flag.
Adoption of the new flag will be before the Steering and Rules Committee on September 9th. The entire Common Council would then vote on adoption later in September. More information can be found at https://milwaukeeflag.com/.
