Alderman Terry L. Witkowski is encouraging residents of the Garden District to take part in Play Music on the Porch Day this Saturday (August 25), beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting throughout the day

Play Music on the Porch Day began in 2013 in Highland Park, California and has grown to be an international, annual celebration of music with hundreds of cities celebrating in 42 countries.

The event was started to give people the opportunity to play and learn music with others and meet new people in the community.

“I encourage everyone to participate in Play Music on the Porch Day and to celebrate and connect with one another through music,” said Alderman Witkowski. “Music is universal and allows us to learn and understand even more about different cultures and how we can better connect with each other,”

Whether you play the guitar, euphonium, djembe, or sing, you’re encouraged to head on out to your front porch to play acoustic music for the whole neighborhood. Please leave your amplifiers at home, as this is an unplugged event. Walking around on Play Music on the Porch Day will not only allow you to expand your musical knowledge, but also to get to know your neighbors better, says the alderman.
