AFP-WI Responds to Wisconsin Supreme Court’s Partial Veto Ruling
Madison, WI – Today, the progressive majority in the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled in favor of Governor Evers‘ 400-year property tax hike veto, giving the governor the power to effectively transform legislation for centuries. Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) responded to this ruling.
AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak released the following statement:
“Today’s ruling by the progressive Wisconsin Supreme Court is a troubling expansion of the veto pen and far beyond what the Constitution intends. By upholding Governor Evers’ partial veto, the Court has given one person the power to rewrite legislation and institute a 400 year property tax hike without accountability.
“Wisconsinites deserve transparency and accountability in government. Unfortunately, today’s Supreme Court decision has weakened the checks and balances our state relies on. AFP-WI disagrees with the decision and will continue to support common-sense policies that make living in Wisconsin affordable.”
Through broad-based grassroots outreach, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is driving long-term solutions to the country’s biggest problems. AFP activists engage friends and neighbors on key issues and encourage them to take an active role in building a culture of mutual benefit, where people succeed by helping one another.
