The Historic Preservation Commission has opened nominations for this year’s Cream of the Cream City Awards. The awards, sponsored by the City’s Historic Preservation Commission and the Common Council, recognize individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the field of historic preservation and heritage education/advocacy in the City of Milwaukee.

The awards recognize preservation projects that range from varied art and architecture in the early 19th century to Milwaukee’s cultural landscape today. Historic Preservation Commission Chair Alderman Robert J. Bauman is encouraging applications from those who have engaged in efforts to preserve Milwaukee’s rich heritage.

Nominations are being accepted until Friday, March 27, 2026. Any individual, organization, or project involved in historic preservation in the City of Milwaukee, big and small, within the last five years is eligible to apply.

Additional information, including eligibility and application instructions, along with previous award winners can be found by visiting Milwaukee.gov/CreamCityAwards. Award winners will be recognized during a special ceremony at Blue Ribbon Hall located in Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
