Acacia Hosts Award-Winning Scholar

MILWAUKEE (October 22, 2025) – Teacher, author, consulting editor and award-winning scholar of British literature, Dr. Sørina Higgins, will give a short talk before Acacia’s performance of Freud’s Last Session on Saturday, October 25th at 6:45 PM. Higgins has taught at various universities and at the graduate and undergraduate levels, illuminating the lives and work of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams. “When I was [at Acacia] for their production of Williams’s The House by the Stable,” recalls Higgins, “I had a marvelous time.”

Suggested by Dr. Armand M. Nicholi, Jr.’s The Question of God, Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session conjures a discussion between titans of theology and psychology C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud on the day England enters WWII. The debate is friendly but the stakes are high as Freud and Lewis assert their truths and attempt to understand the other, “with both humor and insight in abundance…the kind of nuance that breathes life into history.” (NY 1)

Higgins received a Clyde S. Kilby Research Grant from the Marion E. Wade Center for her forthcoming book The Oddest Inkling: An Introduction to Charles Williams. She previously wrote and recorded C.S. Lewis: Writer, Scholar, Seeker, an Audible Original from The Teaching Company. Currently she’s teaching an independent course on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
