2025 Voices of Leadership event will explore loneliness epidemic

Milwaukee, Wis. (Oct. 21, 2025) Mount Mary’s 2025 Voices of Leadership event will address the growing loneliness crisis and its impact on public health. The event takes place on Thursday, Nov. 6 in Bergstrom Hall (located on the Mount Mary University campus).

According to former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, levels of isolation in our country have achieved epidemic proportions and are linked to everything from anxiety to premature death. Join Dr. Krishna DasGupta, M.D. and Dr. Xochitl Yadira Gonzalez, Ph.D., as they explore powerful psychological and spiritual strategies for building stronger connections and increasing social connectivity.

The event will also showcase student projects from several Mount Mary University programs, including:

· Social Work/Counseling: Mount Mary’s Master of Social Work program partnered with the Counseling and Wellness Center and their social work case managers to provide needs-based support on campus
· Dietetics: Students created “Eat with Me,” a special food service pop-up, to cultivate meaningful connections through food
· Interior Architecture & Design: Students designed customizable furniture to encourage face-to-face communication
· Painting: Students explored personal and spiritual connections through art
· Fashion Design: Students conceptualized and designed a five-look capsule collection inspired by the theme of loneliness
