2014 Bastille Days gives Milwaukeeans one summer “storm” to look forward to
Bastille Days is gearing up for the 30th annual BMO Harris Bank Storm the Bastille on Thursday, July 10 at 9 p.m.
After over a week of on-and-off rain and storms, Bastille Days is gearing up for another storm, the 30th annual BMO Harris Bank Storm the Bastille on Thursday, July 10 at 9 p.m. In honor of the 18th century attack on the Bastille prison in Paris, the 5K run and 2-mile walk fills the streets of downtown Milwaukee and the Historic Third Ward with over 5,000 participants annually. This year marks the 225th anniversary of the historic event, making for a particularly strong storm. Registration for the fun run is open, with a reduced rate for early enrollment.
“With the kind of weather we’ve been having, we want to encourage people to look ahead to all the fun events in this summer’s forecast,” said Kim Morris, executive director of the East Town Association, presenter of Bastille Days. “BMO Harris Bank Storm the Bastille is a summer tradition that rallies the community year after year as runners and walkers flood the streets of Milwaukee, rain or shine. It’s one storm we cannot wait for.”
Registration for the BMO Harris Bank Storm the Bastille is $20 in advance or $25 the day of the run. A commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt, as well as a race packet and race number, will be provided to all registered runners.
