10th annual Bronzeville Week continues with events highlighting art, music and more

The 10th annual Bronzeville Week continues with a wide variety of virtual and in-person events for the entire family that will highlight art, music, wellness and more. All events throughout the week can be viewed on the Bronzeville Week Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek. Events will also be available for playback on the Bronzeville website at milwaukee.gov/bronzeville.

“Bronzeville Week looks a little different this year again due to COVID-19, but I am thrilled that we can still enjoy events that showcase the rich history of the Bronzeville District and African-American community and its culture,” said founder and host Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs. “I want to thank all the sponsors, members of the community and everyone else who has helped make Bronzeville Week a success thus far. It has taken a great amount of creative thinking and a true team effort to make this a reality.”

Today’s events (Monday, August 9) begin with the Lit With Lay, a (virtual) dance workshop led by Kalaya Tatum beginning at 12 p.m. The day continues with A Virtual Nail Art Demonstration at 2 p.m. which will feature creative designs and give participants an opportunity to learn to create beautiful gel nails and is led by Tokara Bijou Henry. The day will conclude with a virtual dialogue of The History of Bronzevilles Across the Country at 5 p.m. hosted by Lashawndra Vernon, Creative, Curator in partnership with America’s Black Holocaust Museum including panelist Dan Duster, Financial Advisor, Speaker & Grandson of Ida B. Wells (Chicago) Sharon Morgan, Genealogist, Author & Founder of Our Black Ancestry (Macon, Mississippi), and Patricia Diggs, Executive Director Old Streets Milwaukee Society.
