This year UEC and the Great Waters Group of the Sierra Club will be sponsoring a contest for people of all ages to artistically answer the question: “What is your favorite local green space or park, and why?” We encourage all people in the Milwaukee area to answer this question in words, artwork, video, song or dance. Prizes will be given out to all age groups (12 and under, 13-17, and 18+), with the winners announced at the Earth Day celebration on April 23 at UEC’s Washington Park branch. Entrants will display their work in the auditorium and winners are asked to perform or exhibit their work onstage. Rules and other information on the website. The Marquette University Symphony Orchestra, lead by Music Director Robin Engl, will present their final concert for the 2015.16 season on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marquette University Varsity Theatre (1326 W. Wisconsin Ave. | Milwaukee, WI 53233). This performance is free and open to the public. The first half of the program will feature Gershwin's joyful and spontaneous "Cuban Overture," as well as guest artist, Rick Aaron, on Georg Telemann's "Suite for Flute and Orchestra in A minor." Aaron, a Milwaukee residential musician, has performed with a wide range of ensembles from playing in pit orchestras for Broadway shows at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts to performing in jazz clubs in downtown Milwaukee, and even serving as a substitute flutist for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He has studied flute with Eldridge Meyer, Sam Baron, John Burgess, and Israel Borouchoff. For the second half of the program, the symphony will conclude their year with Ludwig van Beethoven's famous Symphony No. 7, Op. 92. Additionally, the graduating seniors of the MUSO will be recognized for their years of hard work and dedication. The Bard in Spring

This choral concert, commemorating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, will feature musical settings of texts by Shakespeare and several other well-known English poets. Texts will include excerpts from “Much Ado about Nothing,” “Measure for Measure,” “As You Like It,” “Hamlet,” “Othello,” Twelfth Night,” “The Winter’s Tale,” and “Two Gentlemen of Verona.” The music will be as varied as Shakespeare’s works, ranging from lush, haunting settings by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Orlando Gibbons and John Rutter to lilting, joyful and even boisterous settings by Thomas Morley, Franz Schubert, Emma Lou Diemer, Brian McLinden and others.

Lake Park Bistro welcomes Champagne Jacquart Head Winemaker Floriane Eznack for an exclusive dinner paired with their delightful Champagnes on Wednesday, April 27. James Beard Award-winning chef Adam Siegel has created the menu and will lead the kitchen during the event. Champagne Jacquart, based in Reims in the heart of Champagne, is one of the region's most dynamic and forward looking producers. Part of the Alliance Champagne Group, they have the largest area of vineyards in Champagne at their disposal. With access to a diverse and plentiful supply of quality grapes, Jacquart's winemakers are able to choose and then blend wines that reflect the character of the different terroirs, producing final cuvées that each have a distinctive style and personality. Head winemaker Floriane Eznack grew up close to Bordeaux and was introduced to the fascinating world of wine tasting by her father. She earned a Masters Degree in Oenology in Reims in 2004 and has studied harvests at some of Champagne’s finest houses including Moet. Floriane has been head winemaker for Jacquart since 2011 and has travelled extensively and experienced different countries and cultures. She is an enthusiastic ambassador for Champagne Jacquart.
