Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet
Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet create a “cross-cultural exchange” between world rhythms and contemporary jazz melodies. Led by Peruvian trumpeter and Associate Director of Jazz Studies at New York University Gabriel Alegria, the group have spent the last decade together performing hundreds of shows and master classes throughout the world and taking in cultural influences to weave into their sound.The group’s expansive musical journeys hypnotize jazz aficionados and casual listeners alike. The New York Times praised Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet’s capacity to “ the affinities between modern jazz and the Afro-Latin continuum in Peru.”

British singer-songwriter Bobby Long emerged from London's club scene with a reputation for creating memorable songs inhabited by hauntingly poetic lyrics. He relocated to New York in 2009 and has since released three CDs inhabited by powerful original material: A Winter Tale (2011)--an homage to his acoustic roots; Wishbone (2013)--a gritty opus that showcases his sorrow-filled voice and stellar guitar playing; and the latest, Ode to Thinking, which applies his varied musical influences to a new collection of compelling songs. The vinyl version called Ode, comprising six tracks from the CD and three previously unreleased tracks, is also now available from Compass Records. Long has also published a volume of poetry--Losing My Brotherhood--with a second collection coming later this year.

Vanya and his adopted sister, Sonia, are living out their middle age in an old farmhouse in Bucks County, PA, after years of caring for their ailing, Chekhov-loving parents. But their quietly tedious existence changes dramatically once their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her twenty-something boy toy, Spike, for a weekend of wild costume parties, voodoo dolls and family feuds. In its own deliciously madcap way, Durang's Tony Award-winning play not only offers endlessly inventive comic twists, but some keen insights into the absurdities, challenges and agonies of twenty-first-century life as well. Flanked by Elias Holman on Keyboards, Conway Powell on Bass and Tony Ayala on timbales, Carlos Adames leads the Carlos Adames Group, combining the best of latin music with innovative jazz arrangements that are both contemporary and classic. Truly a Latin Jazz Ensemble that’s brought warm-weather to venues around Milwaukee. Carlos Adames is a widely acclaimed percussionist known for his explosive soloing and inventive conga patterns, and a composer, arranger and educator who has worked professionally all over the Western Hemisphere and Europe. For all Carlos’ formal training and technical prowess, his playing is loose and open minded, touching on rhythmic signatures not only of Jazz, Latin Music but also Funk and HipHop.

A true New Orleans institution, Rebirth Brass Band will serve up brass infused with funk and hip-hop. American-roots folk singer/songwriter Tim Grimm opens the evening.
