Eric Hoeprich & The London Haydn Quartet: “Music for Clarinet & String Quartet”

January 14, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Early Music Now presents Eric Hoeprich and the London Haydn Quartet. In two prior seasons we have celebrated an instrument not usually associated with early music, but which has historical roots in the chalumeau and the basset horn. Prior programs showcased those earlier instruments with soprano, harpsichord, cello, and fortepiano. Eric Hoeprich, who specializes in performing on historical clarinet, returns for this third installment, this time with The London Haydn Quartet, one of the world’s leading period instrument string ensembles. The program will include W.A. Mozart’s “Clarinet Quintet” K581, Beethoven’s “String Quartet” Opus 18, No. 3, and the Weber “Clarinet Quintet” Opus 34.

The only cities that have celebrated Dr. King’s Birthday annually since 1984 are Atlanta, Georgia and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Always taking place in the month of January, this event focuses on keeping the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alive. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration programming highlights the youth in our community who every year interpret Dr. King’s words through an art, speech and writing contest. In addition, various cultural arts organizations take center stage in Uihlein Hall, truly demonstrating the excellence of our arts community. Some of the groups celebrating with us this year include The Milwaukee Flyers Tumbling Team, Malik Johnson, Hip Hop Cellist from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee, and more! The event concludes with the Paulette Y. Copeland Reception in Bradley Pavilion. The theme for this year is: "We Shall Overcome"
