“Racial Justice: The Courage To Act” is a workshop on building collective liberation with Chris Crass, nationally known anti-racist activist and writer. Crass joins Reggie Jackson, Head Griot of America’s Black Holocaust Museum, and a strong team of local leaders to provide participants with tools, action strategies and courage to combat racism.
The day-long event is co-sponsored by Black Lives Matter to WI Unitarian Universalists (BLM2WUU), YWCA, Alverno College, All People’s Church, Alverno College, America’s Black Holocaust Museum, Ex Fabula, MICAH, Rid Racism, SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice), the SE Wisconsin United Church of Christ Mission Team, the Greater Milwaukee Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), UBLAC (Uplifting Black Liberation and Community), and the ACLU of Wisconsin.
The goals of the workshop are to motivate people to take positive action for racial justice; to build deeper understanding about systemic racism to motivate courageous action; and to build broader relationships and coordination between people across the racial spectrum. Eleven breakout sessions will center on topics like faith community organizing, white supremacy, white feminism, suburban organizing, and youth working against racism.
