This event is part of the Wisconsin Science Festival.
Archaeological evidence for alcoholic beverages in prehistoric Europe exists – including drinking cups and cauldrons found in the graves. Learn how Iron Age people from what is now Germany produced pre-hopped beer and mead. Participate in a demonstration on the science of malting and fermentation to produce an ale based on evidence from a site dating to 540 B.C. while seeing the evidence for prehistoric brewing. Then taste samples of a beverage based on archaeological evidence for Iron Age braggot brewed by community partner Lakefront Brewery.
