A new wave of creativity will blossom as kids settle in at tables throughout Jackson Park to make art. Milwaukee’s Artists Working in Education (AWE) will bring artists and a mobile studio to the Jackson Park Farmers Market on Thursday, July 2 and Aug. 27. The visiting artists will encourage children of all ages to pick up a brush or chalk — to be creative and express themselves.

“Each student will have the opportunity to make and take a project home,” said AWE Director of Programming Brett Henzig, “as well as contribute their work to a larger, community project.”

AWE’s studio truck is a regular presence at summer activities in Milwaukee’s parks and farmers markets. The park’s natural setting and the energy of the weekly Thursday summer market (June 18 through Oct. 1) are expected to make for a fun time for all.

Funded by the City of Milwaukee Good Neighbor Grant, the project aims to promote wellness and confidence-building as children transition into and out of their summer break. The Jackson Park Community Association, which sponsors the Farmers Market, and Friends of Jackson and Manitoba Parks received funding for this joint effort. Both organizations serve the Jackson Park area’s local community and visitors.
