Help Shape the Future of Women in Public Service

Madison, WIWisconsin Women in Government (WWIG), a statewide, bipartisan nonprofit dedicated to advancing women in public service, is now accepting applications for its Board of Directors, with new members beginning their terms in August 2026.

As the organization continues to grow, WWIG is seeking candidates who can bring specific skills and capacity to support its programming, operations, and long-term sustainability. This year, the organization is particularly interested in individuals with experience or interest in:

  • Fundraising and sponsorship development
  • Event planning and program coordination
  • Communications, marketing, or digital engagement
  • Membership recruitment and retention
  • Nonprofit governance or organizational strategy

The WWIG Board is a volunteer, working board, and members are expected to actively contribute through committee participation and event execution.

Applicants must be residents of Wisconsin. WWIG welcomes applicants from communities across the state and is committed to building a geographically diverse board that reflects the breadth of Wisconsin’s public service landscape. WWIG encourages applications from:

  • Women currently working in government at the local, state, or federal level
  • Women who work with or alongside government in the private or nonprofit sectors
  • Women with prior experience or demonstrated interest in public service

“The strength of WWIG depends on engaged board members who are ready to contribute their time and expertise,” said Emily Petersen, WWIG Board President. “We’re looking for individuals who are not only passionate about our mission, but who are ready to help build and sustain the programs that support women across Wisconsin.”

Serving on the WWIG Board offers an opportunity to build leadership skills, expand professional networks, and directly shape initiatives that support women in government and public service across the state.

The board meets at least six times annually, and members are expected to actively participate in WWIG initiatives and events throughout the year.

Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit a resume and a brief letter of interest to wwigquestions@gmail.com by Friday, June 19, 2026.

Interviews will be conducted in late June, and selected candidates will be invited to join the board beginning with the August meeting.

Wisconsin Women in Government was founded in 1987 to celebrate and support talented women who choose a career in government service. Over the past 35 years, WWIG has awarded over $1.2 million in scholarships to women pursuing careers in government service, including undergraduate scholarships. WWIG has also provided numerous networking, professional development, and leadership training opportunities for professional women.
