WLAX Falls at No. 19 Denver

Tess Osburn records five points in her home state to lead the Golden Eagles.

DENVER – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team (7-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) fell to No. 19 Denver (10-2, 3-0 BIG EAST), 15-9, Wednesday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Top scorers for the Golden Eagles were senior Tess Osburn, who led the way with five points (two goals, three assists) in her home state. Following Osburn was freshman Dani Serrano with three points (one goal, two assists).

The game started off with two goals made by the Pioneers before Marquette could falter their defense. Serrano got the Golden Eagles on the board with an assist from Osburn to make it 2-1.  The Golden Eagles refused to back down, with Mautz gaining another goal backed by Osburn to end the period 4-2 in favor of the Pioneers.

The Pioneers took early control of the second period with two unanswered goals. Eileen Dooley stopped the offense to make the score 6-3 with Osburn.  Osburn then got her first goal of the game with help from Serrano to make it 8-4 Pioneers. Sarah Beth Burns got her first goal of the game, but Denver finished the half on top 11-5.

Denver started with a bang for the third period, but Hanna Bodner answered back with Dooley to make it 12-6. There was some back-and-forth action between MU and Denver, ended by Mautz and Bodner adding another to the board 12-7. Osburn cut the lead to four, finishing the period 12-8 Denver lead.

The Pioneers got the first goal of the period, leading 13-8. Isabelle Casucci answered back with Serrano 13-9.  Denver closed out the game with two more goals, closing the home victory, 15-9.

UP NEXT

The Golden Eagles face off against the Villanova Wildcats this Saturday, April 4th.  First draw will be at Valley Fields at 12 P.M. CT with coverage on ESPN+.
