Danceworks Performance MKE Presents The 8th House
March 13–15 at 7:30 PM at Calvary Presbyterian Church - 628 N 10th St, Milwaukee, WI 53233
Milwaukee, WI — Danceworks Performance MKE invites audiences to step into a world of mystery, transformation, and possibility with The 8th House, an evocative evening-length concert (opening Friday the 13th!) running March 13, 14, and 15 at 7:30 PM.
Featuring the work of the Danceworks creative team—Katelyn Altmann, Cuauhtli Ramírez Castro, Ashley Ray Garcia, Zoe Mei Glise, Christal Wagner and guest choreographer David Roman—Danceworks Performance MKE explores the mysterious significance of the number 8. Inspired by the forces of astrology, tarot, rebirth and transformation, The 8th House invites audiences into a world where movement becomes a ritual of letting go and a dance with destiny itself. Each phrase, each choice, unfolds like a divination by unraveling stories of power, mystery, and rebirth. Choreography is not dictated but revealed through embodiment of tension and beauty while living in a state of perpetual possibility.
Like consulting a Magic 8 Ball, The 8th House asks audiences to pause, concentrate, and look inward. Each choreographic phrase unfolds like a divination, unraveling stories shaped by choice, destiny, and the beauty of living in a constant state of becoming. Dancers embody both tension and surrender, inviting viewers into an immersive experience where the future feels both uncertain and alive with possibility.
“Inspired by the act of asking the Magic 8 Ball, this piece explores the question of whether things ever unfold the way we expect,” says Artistic Director Christal Wagner. “It examines expectations as both a source of hope, vision, and ambition, and as a potential site of disappointment when reality diverges from desire. The work considers the tension between dreaming boldly and the risks inherent in reaching for what we crave, tracing both the successes and the pitfalls that emerge from expectation.”
In addition to the performance, Danceworks is seeking to support and uplift local small businesses whose services and crafts align with the themes of the event. This may include offerings such as massage, psychic or tarot readings, and handmade goods. These vendors will help create a rich, immersive atmosphere that extends beyond the stage and into the full audience experience. Those interested in learning more about vendor opportunities are encouraged to reach out directly to Danceworks for additional information.
Artistic Coordinator and dancer Ashley Ray Garcia talks about her work in this concert. “My piece centers on tarot cards that are often feared or resisted—such as The Devil, The Tower, and Death—and reframes them as moments of transformation rather than misfortune. These cards are approached as signals of necessary endings, disruption, or reckoning that make space for growth and renewal. The work explores the idea that when life diverges from expectation, it may still be unfolding in one’s favor, revealing that closure and upheaval can be pathways toward something stronger, clearer, or more aligned than what came before.”
Tickets and performance details are available on the Danceworks website – www.danceworksmke.org. The 8th House is a bold exploration of transformation through movement—an invitation to let go, ask again later, and trust what emerges. This will be an experience you will not want to miss!
