WLAX Downs Cincinnati 17-10

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team took down Cincinnati, 17-10, Sunday afternoon at the Valley Fields Dome.

The Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season after overcoming an early two-goal deficit and controlling the game over the middle 30 minutes. Cincinnati dropped to 1-1.

Tess Osburn finished with four goals and one assist to lead Marquette, while Hanna Bodner also scored four goals. Ella Mautz and Sarah Beth Burns each added two goals, and nine different Golden Eagles found the back of the net. Mikayla Yang earned the win in goal, allowing four goals with three saves in the opening half. Jillian Howell played the final 30 minutes and made three saves.

Marquette outshot Cincinnati 36-22 and held a 23-12 advantage in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also forced 23 turnovers and collected 20 ground balls.

Cincinnati scored four of the first six goals, including two late in the opening quarter, to take a 4-2 lead. Marquette responded quickly, closing the first quarter within two before erupting in the second.

Marquette held Cincinnati scoreless in the second quarter while scoring seven times to take a 9-4 lead into halftime. Osburn scored twice during the period, while Dani Serrano, Burns, Mautz and Isabelle Casucci each added goals.

The Golden Eagles continued to build separation in the third quarter, scoring six more goals to extend the lead to 15-5. Bodner scored twice in the period, and Osburn added two more goals as Marquette controlled possession and tempo.

Marquette ends their season-opening three game home stand next Friday, Feb. 13, hosting Central Michigan for a 5:00 p.m. CT first draw.
