Packers Punter Daniel Whelan to Visit Ireland and the UK

Whelan to connect with Packers fans and local sports communities as team continues to grow its presence in Ireland and the UK

As the Green Bay Packers look to grow the team’s international presence, one of the stars of the 2025 season is preparing to embark on a special tour through Ireland and the UK.

Irish-born punter Daniel Whelan will visit several cities in the Irish and British markets beginning Tuesday, Feb. 17. With a variety of activities planned, Whelan will participate in local events and media engagements designed to connect with fans and experience the region’s rich sports culture firsthand.

“I’m so excited to spend time with Packers fans in Ireland and the UK on this unique trip,” said Whelan. “Being born in Ireland and spending half my life there, plus having my dad living in the UK, I already have special connections to many places in Ireland and the UK. I’m looking forward to creating even more. Sports play such a central role in culture and tradition on both sides of the Atlantic, and I can’t wait to celebrate that shared passion while helping to grow the Packers’ presence internationally.”

The tour will kick off in Dublin, Ireland, and will be highlighted by a special, invitation-only fan event, the Green & Gold Gathering, hosted at The Wool Shed Bar and Kitchen, on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Moderated by sportscaster and media personality Olivia Harlan, the event is in collaboration with the UK and Irish Packers fan club and will bring Packers fans together for a conversation with Whelan centered on football, fandom and the team’s unique culture.

Though the Green & Gold Gathering is intended for invited guests only, there are a limited number of tickets available through a sweepstakes. Fans located in the UK and Ireland who have the Packers designated as their favorite team through their account on NFL.com will receive an email inviting them to register for a chance to win tickets.

Following his time in Dublin, Whelan will make stops in Glasgow and Newcastle before ending the trip in London. In each location, he may meet with local athletic organizations, participate in media appearances and attend sporting events as schedules allow.

Whelan, who just completed his third season as Packers punter, came to Green Bay in 2023 after a standout season with the D.C. Defenders of the XFL, becoming the first Irish-born NFL player since 1985 and having an immediate impact for the Packers. Despite the challenge of punting in Green Bay’s cold temperatures and winter conditions, he has excelled, becoming one of the NFL’s top punters. He made history in 2025, reaching the top of the Packers’ record books after shattering the team’s single-season records for both gross (51.7 yards per punt) and net (43.9) punting average. His gross average ranked No. 1 in the NFL and marked the first time a Green Bay punter has led the league in the category since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger. He has registered three of the top four single-season averages for punting in franchise history, posting a 46.2-yard average in 2023 (No. 3), a 46.1-yard mark in 2024 (No. 4). and a team-record 51.7-yard average in 2025.
