#MUBB Falls 69-64 at Seton Hall Saturday Afternoon
The Marquette University men’s basketball team (8-15, 3-9 BIG EAST) continued conference play with a 69-64 loss at Seton Hall (16-6, 6-5 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at the Prudential Center.
Guard Nigel James Jr. finished with 16 points and guard Adrien Stevens chipped in nine points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Pirates opened the half with a 12-5 run, eventually taking their first lead of the game at 45-44 with 14 minutes left in the second stanza. SHU moved ahead by as many as five points in the following minutes, but Marquette remained within striking distance, and the score was tied at 60-60 with 3:50 left on a layup by James Jr.
In the end, however, it was a 3-pointer by SHU with just over a minute remaining that proved to be the difference down the stretch. MU remained within three points until the closing seconds, but couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way.
The Golden Eagles led 41-33 at the intermission after shooting 53.6 percent from the floor, including an 8-of-12 effort from behind the 3-point line. MU led by as many as nine points and never trailed in the opening half, thanks to 12 points for James Jr. and 10 from Parham.
