Telling stories with Ex Fabula

By - Apr 29th, 2010 04:00 am

Everyone has a story to tell — and believe it or not, people want to hear it. Ex Fabula was launched last November under that exact premise, with its goal to bring live storytelling to Milwaukee. Modeled somewhat after NYC’s event The Moth, Ex Fabula visits a different venue each month, sets a theme and lays out a few guidelines. The rest is up to the audience.

Stories are told in three formats —Solo, The Rashomon (same story told from two different perspectives) and The Terkel—and the storytellers are made up of pre-selected guests and the brave souls who sign up at the event.

Past events have included stories about lust and Kraft singles, near-death experiences and meeting the in-laws for the first time.

This week, Mark chats with Megan Mcgee and Leah Delaney, two of the group’s founding members (along with Matt Sabljak, Amy Schleicher and Adam Weise) about the art of telling a story, especially in the technological age when narratives are down to 140 words or less.

Ex Fabula hosts their end-of-season spectacular at Turner Hall on May 14. For more information, check out their website.
