Wisconsin Democrats on Wisconsin Republicans Refusing to Extend ACA Subsidies

MADISON, Wis. — After today’s senate vote where Republicans refused to continue crucial ACA subsidies, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker released the following statement:

“With this vote, Republicans are doubling down on their agenda that steals health care from the working class to fund tax breaks for the billionaires like Elon Musk. Wisconsin House Republicans, led by Tom Tiffany, content with their taxpayer funded health care, have made clear that they will vote against health care funding for the rest of Wisconsin. As a result nearly 300,000 Wisconsinites may have to choose between paying for their medicine and paying for their increasingly costly groceries.

“Make no mistake, whether you live in the country or in a city, this was a direct attack on working people across the state. Republicans have been trying to get rid of healthcare funding and protections for pre-existing conditions for over 15 years to enrich their corporate elite donors. By Tom Tiffany’s own admission they still have no plan to replace it besides letting the system fail, the people suffer, and the richest get even richer.

“That’s why we continue to see voters rejecting Republicans and their devastating, cost-raising, policies. Next November Wisconsinites will fire Republicans up and down the ballot for their betrayal of working people.”
