Senator Ratcliff Welcomes Approval of Historic Broadband Expansion Across Wisconsin

MADISON, WI — Senator Melissa Ratcliff (D-Cottage Grove) applauds the federal approval of our state’s ambitious plan to deploy more than $1 billion in broadband funding — a landmark investment that will connect high-speed internet to more than 175,000 homes and businesses statewide.

Senator Ratcliff also recognizes U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin for her instrumental role in delivering the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which secured the federal funding necessary to build out the Badger State’s broadband network.

“Senator Baldwin has been a strong champion for Wisconsin,” Senator Ratcliff stated. “Her leadership in delivering the bipartisan infrastructure law helped make this historic broadband investment possible. Thanks to her work, families, farmers, students, and small businesses across our state will soon have access to the reliable, high-speed internet they deserve.”

The funding — administered through the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program — will support the construction of fiber networks, fixed-wireless infrastructure, and other advanced technologies to reach unserved and underserved communities. The plan also prioritizes connections for schools, libraries, health care facilities, and local government offices.

“Reliable broadband is essential for education, health care access, economic development, and community safety,” Senator Ratcliff stated. “This investment will help close long-standing gaps in connectivity and ensure that every Wisconsinite — no matter their ZIP code — can fully participate in today’s digital economy.”

Senator Ratcliff reaffirmed her commitment to overseeing the rollout to ensure funding is used efficiently and equitably across all regions of the state.
