Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Great Lakes Regional

By - Nov 14th, 2025 02:26 pm

Marquette University cross country wrapped up its 2025 season at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday in Evansville, Indiana.

“Overall, a big step forward from last year,” second-year head coach Jack Hackett said. “We came in projected to be 29th on both sides and finished 28th and 27th on the women’s and men’s sides, respectively.”

Emma Coon led the way for the Golden Eagles, finishing 65th in 21:25.66, an improvement from her 115th-place finish in 2024.

“The women’s race started a little conservatively for us, but we continued to move up as the race went on,” Hackett said. “Emma ran especially well, she got out around 120th place and finished in the 60s. I thought Elise also ran a great race and moved up quite a bit. The way those two moved through the field really helped us improve from where we were last year.”

On the men’s side, freshman Dylan Riniker led Marquette, finishing 72nd with a time of 32:04.25.

“Even though some athletes were struggling, others stepped up and pushed them along,” Hackett said. “We finished dead last when we raced here last year, and this year we were 27th, more than 200 points better. Dylan got out in a great position and just kept going; he was the standout performer today. Nick did a great job of hanging in and not letting the floor drop, and Patrick, in his first regional action, deserves some applause as well. They were all great, and Edgar and Ethan moved up as a pack as the race went on, which really made the difference for us this year. In the end, I’m happy with the progress, but I know we are capable of even more, and I’m already looking forward to coming back next year.”
