Maria Lazar Starts SCOWIS Campaign By Copying Brad Schimels Failed Playbook Literally
MADISON, Wis. — Yesterday, after launching her campaign for Wisconsin Supreme Court, Maria Lazar did her first interview and wasted no time copying the failed playbook of former SCOWIS candidate Brad Schimel. Lazar repeated the exact same analogy Schimel wore out last cycle — comparing judicial objectivity to attending a Brewers game and seeing the “umpire standing behind the plate is wearing the jersey of the other team.”
Just like Schimel, Lazar has a lengthy record of supporting right wing policies that strip rights and freedoms away from Wisconsinites. They both defended Scott Walker’s attacks on working families, accepted endorsements from anti-abortion groups that make no exceptions for rape or incest, and has touted ties to election deniers.

“When you go in front of a judge or a panel of judges or the state Supreme Court, you should have confidence that you are going to get a fair shake at what happens. You don’t want to go to a baseball game, go brewers. You don’t want to go to a game where the umpire standing behind the plate is wearing the jersey of the other team. So you know they’re not going to call balls and strikes your way.”
“I characterize this to average voters all the time, like going to a Brewer game, and you know, you buy your first $17 beer, but the umpire comes out wearing a Cardinals jersey. You’re not sticking around for the end of this game. You’re not buying another beer, because you know how this is going to end.”
