City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works Flood Recovery Update-August 18, 2025
The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) continues its emergency response and cleanup efforts following last week’s historic flooding. Crews worked throughout the weekend and remain in the field this week supporting recovery efforts across the city.
[inarticlkead]Free curbside pickup and Drop-Off Center services have been extended through this week to assist residents continuing to clean out flood-damaged property.
For residents who receive City garbage collection, DPW continues offering free special bulky item pickups for flood-damaged materials. Crews are completing the first pass through neighborhoods and once that is finished, additional sweeps will be made to ensure full citywide coverage. We know that some residents have set out more items since our first visit while others may not have been ready when initial collections occurred. We will return to those areas.
To request a pickup, contact the City Call Center at 414-286-CITY, submit a request online at milwaukee.gov/clickforaction, or use the MKE Mobile app.
The Drop-Off Centers at 3879 West Lincoln Avenue and 6660 North Industrial Road will remain free for residents through this week. Both sites are open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. To support continued cleanup, the centers were also open today, Monday August 18, which is typically a closed day. Staff are on-site to assist with traffic flow and resident questions. Please note these are self-service sites. Residents are responsible for unloading their own materials, and lines may be cut off before closing to ensure all vehicles already in line are processed before the gates close.
Crews are also continuing to address street lighting outages. Restorations are in progress. Sewer, forestry, and street maintenance crews continue to work across divisions to address flood-related concerns. Additional resources have been deployed to assist with the volume of work, and we appreciate the public’s continued patience as we respond to each neighborhood. As flood response remains the priority, some non-emergency service requests may still experience delays. Brush collection remains suspended. Recycling collections are expected to resume the week of August 25.
Residents are encouraged to report any issues or service requests by calling 414-286-CITY, visiting milwaukee.gov/clickforaction, or by using the MKE Mobile app. We thank all residents for their ongoing cooperation as we continue Milwaukee’s flood recovery together.
