Baldwin Launches Statewide “Fighting for Wisconsin Families Tour”
Baldwin kicks off tour this week with stops in Milwaukee, Brown, Door, Lincoln, Sawyer, and Ashland counties
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced her “Fighting for Wisconsin Families Tour.” Throughout August, Senator Baldwin will travel across the state to meet with parents, workers, small businesses, and farmers to hear firsthand how the Trump Administration’s reckless agenda is driving up costs, making it harder to plan for the future, and hurting working families. Senator Baldwin will highlight the President’s erratic trade war and devastating cuts to Medicaid, and outline how she is fighting back to lower costs for Wisconsinites, support businesses in this time of chaos, and create opportunities for folks to land a good-paying job.
“President Trump promised to do a lot for Wisconsin families when he got into office, but since then, it’s been broken promises, higher costs at every turn, and just plain chaos for our workers, farmers, and small businesses,” said Senator Baldwin. “I promised to show up everywhere, listen, and fight for Wisconsin – and that is just what I am doing. This month, I’ll be traveling across the state to listen and elevate the stories of the families who are having their Medicaid terminated, businesses who are left in limbo because of scattershot tariffs, and folks who can’t afford to pay for childcare or buy a house because this administration is prioritizing the wealthy, not hard-working families.”Baldwin’s tour will kick off this week with stops in Milwaukee, Brown, Door, Lincoln, Sawyer, and Ashland counties. The tour comes as President Trump signed the Republicans’ budget bill, which Senator Baldwin voted against, into law which slashes Medicaid, threatens to shut rural hospitals, and gives tax breaks to big corporations. All the while President Donald Trump’s global trade war continues to cause confusion for Wisconsin businesses, workers, and families.
Republicans’ budget bill could terminate health care for more than 15 million Americans, including 250,000 Wisconsinites. In Wisconsin, Medicaid provides care for more than 1.2 million people, including four in seven nursing home residents, one in three children, and one in three adults with disabilities. It is projected that hospitals in Wisconsin will lose $264.6 million a year because of the Republicans’ budget bill, jeopardizing the ability of hospitals and clinics to remain open.
Senator Baldwin has been a vocal opponent of Donald Trump’s Trade War, meeting with businesses and farmers across Wisconsin to learn about how the President’s economic policy is hurting their bottom lines. In March, Senator Baldwin sent a letter to President Trump outlining the details her trade agenda that centers workers, stands up to trade cheats like China, and grows the American manufacturing sector.NOTE: This press release was submitted to Urban Milwaukee and was not written by an Urban Milwaukee writer.
