Brewers Acquire Right-Handed Pitcher Shelby Miller and Left-Handed Pitcher Jordan Montgomery

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller and left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for a player to be named or cash. The announcement was made by Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Arnold.
Miller has posted a 4.03 ERA in 291 appearances (133 starts) over 13 seasons in the Major Leagues with St. Louis (2012-14), Atlanta (2015), Arizona (2016-18, 2025), Texas (2019), Chicago-NL (2021), Pittsburgh (2021), San Francisco (2022), Los Angeles-NL (2023) and Detroit (2024). He was a National League All-Star in 2015, notching a 3.02 ERA in 33 starts with the Braves.
Selected by St. Louis in the first round (No. 19 overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Miller recorded his best season as a reliever in 2023, going 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA and 1 save in 36 appearances (1 start) for Los Angeles-NL.
Montgomery, 32, has pitched parts of eight seasons in the Major Leagues with New York-AL (2017-22), St. Louis (2022-23), Texas (2023) and Arizona (2024). He underwent “Tommy John” surgery in April and is expected to miss the entire 2025 season. Montgomery signed a one-year contract with a vesting option with the Diamondbacks prior to 2024 and will be a free agent after this season.
