Milwaukee County Celebrates National Public Works Week

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is proclaiming May 18 – 24 2025, Public Works Week in Milwaukee County, to coincide with National Public Works Week (NPWW). NPWW is held to recognize those who plan, design, build, manage, and operate the infrastructure that ensures a high quality of life in the county. This year’s theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” highlights three cornerstone ideals that motivate public works professionals to serve in their communities every day.

“Public works professionals keep our community strong by providing essential services in transportation, fleet, public parks, emergency management, engineering, and more,” said County Executive Crowley. “This week, we are highlighting how quality infrastructure, and those who maintain it, supports our local economy, creates safer neighborhoods, and enhances the quality of life for residents, families, and children in Milwaukee County.”

Milwaukee County residents are invited to participate in National Public Works Week by showing their support for the programs and professionals that help make Milwaukee County a great place to live and work.

• Volunteer: From trail building to tree planting, park beautifying to bumble bee photographing, weed pulling to wetland monitoring—Park Stewardship takes many forms, and we’ve got quite the range of opportunities for you to get involved.Whether you’re looking for a one-day volunteer event or a longer-term project with orientation and training, there’s something for everyone—and many opportunities change seasonally. Big or small, your contribution helps protect and enhance the parks we all love.Not sure where to start? • Give: The Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is asking individuals to have a life-saving impact on the community by donating blood. Donations during NPWW, coinciding with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, will help support Milwaukee County’s pre-hospital blood transfusion program. • Experience: Milwaukee County services are available to all residents and visitors. Throughout the week, the Milwaukee County Departments of Transportation, Parks, and the Office of Emergency Management, will help demonstrate what “public works” means.
