Rep Moore Omokunde: “AB103 is a Direct Attack on Transgender Students”
MADISON— This afternoon, the Wisconsin State Assembly convened for legislative floor session. Assembly Bill 103, school board policies related to changing a pupil’s legal name and pronouns, passed on party lines, 50-43.
State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde (D-Milwaukee) said: “This bill is a direct attack on transgender students. There is a Swahili word ‘Kujichagulia’ which means ‘Self-determination.’ To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves, instead of having others do it for us. I want to make it clear that I stand with the trans community as they strive for Kujichagulia.”Representative Moore Omokunde represents the 17th Assembly District on the North and Northwest sides of Milwaukee.
