Senator Baldwin Calls Out Trump Executive Order Seeking to Dismantle Department of Education to Pay for Billionaire Tax Breaks
“I’ll fight like hell to make sure our students aren’t the ones paying for Republicans’ tax breaks for billionaires”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released the following statement blasting President Donald Trump’s executive order directing his Administration to attempt to dismantle and shutter the Department of Education:
“Donald Trump remains hellbent on rigging the system for the ultrawealthy at Wisconsin families’ expense and I’ll fight like hell to make sure our students aren’t the ones paying for Republicans tax breaks for billionaires.”
Today, President Trump signed an executive order directing actions to further dismantle and eventually close the Department of Education, a congressionally-approved, decades-old agency that is charged with protecting students’ civil rights, supporting students with disabilities, and funding public schools, Pell Grants, and student loans.
