WBB Travels to No. 5/5 UConn Sunday fpr Regular-Season Finale
Golden Eagles and Huskies tipoff at 1 p.m. CT on FS1
The Marquette University women’s basketball team travels to No. 5/5 UConn on Sunday, March 2 for its BIG EAST regular-season finale. FS1 features the broadcast, with John Fanta (play-by-play) and Meghan Culmo (analyst) on the call.
CONSUEGRA TIES HISTORICAL WIN MARK IN FIRST HOME SLATE
• Marquette finished the season with a 13-2 home record, tied for the best record by a first-year head coach in program history. MU finished 13-2 at home in Megan Duffy‘s first year in 2019-20.
• The Golden Eagles reached 20 wins in 28 games, tied for the second-fastest road to 20 wins by a first-year head coach in program history. MU reached 20 wins in 28 games in Terri Mitchell‘s first year in 1996-97.
• Six wins in February is the most by a first-year head coach in program history.
DEFENSE MAKES HISTORY IN WIN OVER XAVIER
• Marquette held Xavier to just 37 points in the win on Thursday night, the lowest conference opponent point total in program history.
• The Golden Eagles had given up 38 points three times in conference play before Thursday night, including this season when MU won 67-38 at Xavier on Jan. 29.
DEFENSE LEADS THE WAY FOR MU
• Marquette is second in the BIG EAST and 21st in the nation in field goal percentage defense (36.6 percent) and have held opponents to under 45 percent from the floor in 26-of-28 games this season.
• The two losses at Creighton (1/8) and at Butler (2/9) are the only times this season an opponent shot 45-percent-or-better against Marquette.
• MU is 29th nationally holding opponents to 56.5 points per game.
• The Golden Eagles have held opponents to under 53 points eight times and have held teams to 10-points-or-less in 23 quarters this season.
BLOCK PARTY
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and 27th nationally at 4.5 blocks per game.
• Skylar Forbes is second in the BIG EAST and 39th in the nation with 50 blocks on the season, the most by a sophomore in program history.
• The sophomore forward is first in the conference and 39th nationally at 1.9 blocks per game and had a career-high five blocks in the road win at Rutgers on Nov. 29, 2024.
