WLAX Dominates Central Michigan in Season Opener Wednesday, 17-5
Golden Eagles home opener is Monday against Louisville at Valley Fields
MOUNT PLEASANT, Michigan – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team opened its 2025 season on Wednesday with a17-5 win at Central Michigan.
The Golden Eagles (1-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by Meg Bireley, who had four goals for her 20th game with three-or-more goals in her career.
Tess Osburn, Hanna Bodner and Isabelle Casucci all recorded hat tricks. Tessa and Lauren Grady had one goal and two assists each.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Chippewas 38-11 and collected 25 ground balls. MU had just nine turnovers for the game, one off the program record for fewest turnovers in a game.
The Marquette defense, anchored by Brynna Nixon who earned the win, gave up just five goals, the fewest goals allowed since Marquette won 21-4 at Xavier on April 20, 2024.
Central Michigan (0-2, 0-0 MAC) was led by Reagan Martinsen, who had two goals and one assist.
